A Love Letter: in Times of Doubt

January 23, 2019

This blog accompanies a guided reflection with Nikkola, which you can watch here.

At the beginning of a new year we’re excited about the future. It’s a chance to start fresh and realign ourselves. It might bring new energy, creativity and a thirst for more! Or maybe November and December felt insanely hectic, and finally, finally now you can stop doing the things you don’t like and start doing what you really want!

But right alongside those feelings, there’s likely to be a hint of pressure. In all areas of our life we often feel we could and should be doing more. It can lead to a constant state of striving, for achievement or approval. There’s a delicate balance to be found between seeking more and loving yourself exactly where you are now, and that’s what we’re talking about today 🙂

At our Remember Workshop, we explored some of those things that we already have inside of us: gifts, strengths and wisdom. Below are some key questions to ask yourself:

  • Thinking about all areas of your life, what makes you feel good?
  • What supports your happiness?
  • When the going gets tough, what gets you through?
  • How do you connect with your inner self? What does it feel like?

Reflecting on these things helps us to build a foundation of love and trust in ourselves. This is an important basis for happiness and living consciously. It means we can go out and explore the world, but have a home in ourselves that means we will always be okay – no matter where our journey takes us.
One way to connect with that home in ourselves, is to have reminders. And a beautiful way to remember all these wonderful things about us is by writing a letter to your future self. This will be something you can turn to in times of doubt, struggle or loss – when it’s easy to forget that we do have strengths, resources and support available to us at all times. It’s also a great way to remind yourself that a good cup of tea can solve just about anything!

How to write a love letter, to you!

1. Reflect on the following questions:

  • What do you most need to hear when things are tough?
  • What helps you to connect back into your heart?
  • What do you wish someone would tell you, to encourage and lift your spirits?
  • What beliefs or values do you know to be true on a deep level?
  • What are some tangible, physical things or activities that help you shift your energy?

2. Find some paper you like, and start by addressing the letter to yourself.

3. Using as much positive, kind and caring language as you can, write a letter to your future self. Imagine you are speaking to a close friend or yourself when you were little! What inspiration and encouragement would you share?

4. Pop your letter in an envelope, add some dried flowers or essential oil if that’s your thing, and keep it somewhere you will remember!

Below we have shared the letters both Kirsty and I have written to ourselves. These are only for inspiration and as examples. This is a special love note to yourself, and your language and words are always going to be perfect – so trust yourself 😉

Our love letters

Dear Nikkola

I love you, and you are safe.
If you haven’t already, take 10 deep breaths.
Release. Breathe it out. Feel our feet on the ground. And here are some things I’d like you to remember:
You are one with the earth
You are one with the divine
You are one with the divine
And oneness is your true nature

Love is the greatest power there is, and it’s in you. It is you. You are an embodiment of love.

Please go and put your feet on the earth. Right now, go and do it! Feel the energetic cords extend out from your feet right down into the depths of the earth’s core. Feel powerful earth energy running through you, you are anchored. For this is your human existence, and you chose all of this beautiful experience!
Whatever it is that’s hurting your heart today, embrace it. Love it. Bless it. And then surrender it over. Because while you are for sure, human AF – you are not alone. You are supported by the love of the universe, the power of Mother Nature, and the deep, enduring and all-encompassing love of your Soul. You are not alone, and you can handle anything that comes your way!

Now, go and have a cup of tea.
Love, Nikkola xxx

Dear Kirsty

Thank you for opening this letter and remembering that it is okay to need a little bit of help in times of need.
You are not in this alone.

The negative self talk and feeling of not being enough is all okay. You are allowed to have these feelings. The hurt is temporary and in this moment you get to choose. It is always your choice how you want to feel. You may want to take some time to be alone, to numb, watch mindless TV, cry, let all the emotions happen.

When you are ready… remember all of the good you have in your life. You’re healthy, you have amazing family and friends, the ability to take yourself away into the forest or to the beach, park or river. Do the sacred things you love. Or do nothing at all.

You are enough. In this very moment you are enough. You don’t have to be anything to anybody. Your inner self will guide you, she knows best for you. You are always okay. You have the tools. Even if it doesn’t feel like it right now, allow yourself the time, and all the love will come flowing back through you.
And how do i know this? Because I have been through the hardest of times – twice! And i am here and i have the most beautiful life.

Maybe a pivot is required right now. Or the courage to make a change. Or maybe you just need to slow down and take some time to assess where you are right now. Whatever the reason is that you have made the choice to open this letter, just know that you are courageous. For even opening it you are courageous. You have all the answers inside of you. Just take a breath and dive in to find them.

You are love.
You are beautiful.
You are worth.
You are enough.
Be your free, courageous, infectious self.

You’ve got this, always xxx

If you would like to create some intentional self-care time and be guided through this reflection process, feel free to watch/listen to the guided reflection with me. You can find it here 🙂

Wishing you oodles of encouragement as you love on your beautiful self, now and in the future.

Love & magic,
Nikkola Xx
